The Sun Protective Clothing was formed in 1996 by Dawn and Ron Griffiths. The realization of the changes of ultraviolet radiation from the sun really came to light when Ron was diagnosed with malignant melanoma skin cancer. As everyone is aware prolonged exposure to the sun can have serious consequences. Unfortunately most people don't pay attention until they themselves or someone they know is diagnosed with skin cancer.

After seeing specialists, Dermatologists and reading everything we could on skin cancer one realizes just how dangerous sun exposure can be. We did not realize that many typical cotton T-shirts and summerweight fabrics can allow 50% of harmful UV rays through to your skin when dry and 10%-20% more when wet. One in seven of our own children now face a risk of getting skin cancer during their lifetime.

Finding out that the instances of skin cancer is fast becoming the number one of leader over all other cancer occurrences is a very sobering thought. Coupled with our own experience with melanoma and the alarming statistics presented to us we knew that we must protect our skin from the dangers of sun exposure.

Through our search to locate a fabric that was a summerweight and provided the protection that we required we finally found one that met our criteria. The fabric is called "Solarweave®". Solarweave®(proven by independent testing) provides effective sun protection through extended wear under all conditions of use. The tests included the following:

1. Laundry Test - Passed Up to 99% effective after 40 launderings (depending upon colour)

2. UV Exposure Test - Passed 200 hours of accelerated ultraviolet exposure in Florida humidity and temperature.

3. Abrasion Test - Passed 95% effective after concentrated abrasion testing wore off 50% of the material

4. Bio-compatibility Test - Passed 100% non-irritating for even the most sensitive skin

Solarweave® proven to be an incredible, durable fabric that remained cottony soft and breathable throughout all testing. With results like these we knew we had found our fabric.

Our background for the past 15 years has been in the garment manufacturing industry. With this experience it was a natural progression to manufacture a line of sun protective clothing.

After our initial testing the fabric proved to be everything we had hoped it did not take long to put together a line of casual clothing to protect the entire family. We offer a complete line ranging from men's jacket's sport shirt's and pants; to lady's shirts and pants; to children's shirts and pants; toddler's playsuits; and a variety of hats for the whole family.

Our goal is to provide the highest UV protection in a light weight garment while maintaining style, comfort and durability.
